With style and confidence to spare, Ireland sextet Cardinals deliver their latest single ‘Unreal’ via So Young Records. Cardinals come across as both effortless and energetic, vocalist Euan Manning languidly delivers melodic verses before losing his cool, yelling the chorus so hard the mic distorts. Guitars growl, cymbals smash and amid the noise Manning yelps “both of my ears start to ring.” The songwriting is utilitarian and the production is unburdened by gimmicks, all is on show and what we have in Cardinals is a band that sounds like a band. "Unreal was written in the back of a Ford Transit van that I happened to be living in at the time” explains Manning, “It reminds me of warm days spent on the beaches at home back in Cork.” Cardinals will be venturing as far as SXSW in the coming months, eventually returning home to Cork in March to finish off their first headline tour of UK & Ireland, tickets on sale this Friday. -Adam Brown
